What do you think of our Knots Walking trails?

In the spring of 2024, the new Knopen-Lopen walking network throughout
South Limburg will be ready. Visit Zuid-Limburg is developing this network on behalf of all sixteen South Limburg municipalities.

The Municipality of Kerkrade has almost finished the walking route map for Kerkrade. "We are curious to know what our residents think of the first version of the Map . And would love to hear if there are any ideas for routes," said Alderman Tim Weijers (Tourism & Marketing).

We have already used many ideas from residents for the Map

To create a good walking network for residents and tourists, we cannot do without the help of our residents. This is why the municipality actively involved the Residents' Platforms, among others, in making the plan. In addition, a walk-in meeting was held in June for residents of the entire Parkstad region and an appeal was made through municipal channels. The ideas and proposals that emerged from the meetings and call were carefully considered and used as much as possible in the Map plan.

For example, people asked if we could include routes such as the Via Belgica and the Parkstad Route (it was first called Leisure Lane) in the walking network. Indeed, you will soon be able to follow these routes using nodes. Equestrian routes and the Limburg200 MTB and gravel route were also taken into account when creating the Map . About the Dutch Mountain Trail we are still in consultation with DMFF, the organization behind this long-distance route.

Alderman Weijers: "If you have more ideas, please share them with us! After all, we think it is important that the routes really fit in with Kerkrade, so that many residents will make use of the network. After all, walking is good for you and fits in perfectly with the VIE idea. Of course, we also cordially invite all tourists and people from our region to soon discover Kerkrade in a healthy and vital way."

If you have any ideas after seeing the Map, you can send them to the municipality until October 1, 2023. You can do this by sending an e-mail to gemeentehuis@kerkrade.nl You can also call during office hours to telephone number 14 045. Then ask for Yvonne Vrouenraets or Bart Heffels.

How does Knoop-Looping work?

The Knopen-Lopen hiking network will soon make it very easy to take a nice walk. The length of the route is up to you. The new walking network works in the same way as the bicycle network. You walk from node to node. Different roads and footpaths connect the nodes. A hiking node is a sign with a number on it. The signs are located at a junction or fork in the network. The signs tell you which direction to go to the next node on your chosen route.
