King Willem-Alexander visits Kerkrade

King Willem-Alexander paid a working visit to Kerkrade last Friday. The visit focused on Medlands Parkstad and the MedTech sector in the region. The aim was to give the King a clear picture of how people in our region work together on education, innovation, and medical technology.

The visit began at VISTA College. Students and staff talked about their education and their work in the MedTech sector. They explained why they chose this field and how they see their future in this sector. This made it clear how important good education and talent are for the region.

Visit to Boston Scientific

The King then visited Boston Scientific in Kerkrade. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Mayor Petra Dassen and Boston Scientific Executive Etien Jamin. The King was then given a tour of the company, where he saw how medical technology is manufactured and used in practice.

During the visit, the King also heard a personal story from a patient. This made clear what the work at Boston Scientific means for patients, both in the Netherlands and abroad. The King listened attentively and expressed his appreciation.

After the tour and the patient's story, the King spoke with government, education, and business leaders. They discussed Medlands, regional cooperation, and the future of the MedTech sector.

The royal visit underscores the power of regional cooperation and the shared ambition to further develop Parkstad and South Limburg into a leading MedTech ecosystem.
