Queen Máxima at signing music agreement 'More Harmony in Society'
Her Majesty Queen Máxima, honorary president of Méér Muziek in de Klas, will be present on Thursday afternoon, March 27, in Kerkrade at the signing of the renewed music agreement "More Harmony in Society. For five years now, all elementary school pupils from the municipalities of Brunssum, Landgraaf and Kerkrade have received weekly music lessons by professional teachers and there are extracurricular musical offerings. Because of the new music agreement, the program is also available to pupils from the other municipalities of the Parkstad Limburg region.
Queen Máxima attends the plenary program that looks back at the results achieved and shares ambitions for the coming years. There will also be performances by a dance class, school choirs, a pop band and students playing a wind instrument. During the plenary session, the More Harmony in Society program will receive a More Music in the Classroom trophy. The program receives the trophy for the continuation of years of efforts to structurally offer music education in the region and to introduce all elementary school students to the widest possible range of musical offerings.
Following this, Queen Máxima will enter into conversation with the cooperation partners and organizations involved. These talks will be about what the program means for both the children and the schools and affiliated music associations, about cooperation and about the effects of the program in daily practice.
Nearly eight thousand pupils receive weekly music lessons with the aim of learning to experience music and making music together. 'More Harmony in Society' is a collaboration between the municipalities of Brunssum, Landgraaf and Kerkrade, educational foundation MOVARE and SMK music and dance. The program offers children the chance to become acquainted with singing, wind instruments and electronic instruments. There are also percussion classes and DJ lessons and each music group concludes a period with a performance at their own school or in a theater or pop podium. In addition, schools are given the opportunity to visit theater performances and concerts of professional orchestras in the region, among other things.
