Royal decoration for Mr. Vandebroek

Mr. G.P. Vandebroek (90 years old) received a Royal Decoration from Mrs. Petra Dassen-Housen, Mayor of Kerkrade, on October 1 this year because of his many years of active involvement in club life. Thanks to his commitment and enthusiasm, many people have been able to pursue their hobbies.

He was appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Mr. Vandebroek is known as an organizer, administrator, sponsor recruiter and socially engaged personality. He has been active in association life all his life.

For example, he was president of the Samacols Baseball and Softball Club from 1981 to 1996. In addition, between 1989 and 2012, he was the driving

force behind savings association Three Birds, where he took charge of organizing bowling nights, card nights, hiking trips, annual barbecue, day trips and the annual puzzle rally.

Between 2004 and 2020, he also served as president of billiards club Wilhelmina. Here, among other things, he kept the membership records, organized tournaments and made match schedules.

From 2003 to 2019, Mr. Vandebroek, in cooperation with Housing Corporation HEEMwonen, organized the annual Neighborhood Day for the residents of the apartment on Patronaatstraat and the apartment above the Kruidvat. By the WoCo of HEEMwonen, he was seen as the unofficial representative of the residents in the area of living enjoyment; much more than the landlord who was addressed for technical matters.

Mr. Vandebroek served on the sponsorship committee of Mannenkoor David at Spekholzerheide from 2005 to 2020, where he is also known as the oldest member.

Today, he is still active in club life: since 2006, he has organized the monthly card tournament Kwajongen in Heidsjer Tref.

His 90th birthday is a rare opportunity to thank this very amiable and always self-effacing person on behalf of all the free time spenders who were able to pursue their hobby through his dedication and drive. Thanks.
