Borrow an electric bike in Parkstad: opening Velocity

On Wednesday, May 11, a grand opening launched Velocity: a new electric bike sharing system.

A promotion team was on the road between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to show interested parties how to use the two-wheelers. The first cyclists received a voucher to try out the e-bike. The twenty new stations in Parkstad join the already existing hundred stations in the Aachen region. The project is being paid for with support from the Region Deal Parkstad Limburg.

Why Velocity?

Those who take public transportation to work or school can now quickly and easily make the last trip by e-bike. The electric shared bike is also ideal for day trips. A nice bonus is that Velocity encourages people to leave their cars at home more often, thus reducing CO2 emissions and the number of cars in city and village centers.

Where are the e-bikes?

Velocity currently has 21 sub-stations in Parkstad. Eight of the stations are in Heerlen, six in Kerkrade, two in Voerendaal and Beekdaelen and one in Landgraaf, Brunssum and Simpelveld. The stations are located at public transport hubs.

For Kerkrade, the locations are:

- Dentgenbach business park
- Train station Eygelshoven-Hopel
- Train station Chevremont
- Kerkrade center, Martin Buberplein
- Bus stop Parkstad Limburg Stadium, Locht
- Bus stop Ursulastraat Bleijerheide

How does it work?

Reservations and payment are made via an app. The cost will soon be €1.50 per half hour. At an average speed of twenty kilometers per hour (including delays at traffic lights, etc.) a cyclist can cover about ten kilometers in that time. Pre-registration is necessary. This can be done by downloading the Velocity Mobility app from the app store or through the Velocity Limburg website The minimum age for registration is 18. Young people between the ages of 16 and 18 need parental consent.
