Supplier municipalities of Eijsden-Margraten, Gulpen-Wittem, Kerkrade, Meerssen and Vaals hit by cyber attack
Service levels restored and system back up and running safely.
On July 27, a software supplier of the municipalities of Eijsden-Margraten, Gulpen-Wittem, Kerkrade, Meerssen and Vaals was hit by a cyber attack. Specifically, it involved the social domain administration system. Due to the cyber attack, data files were locked and no longer accessible. The system was extensively investigated by a specialized cyber security agency. Research showed that there was no indication of data theft.
Services continued
In the past period, the focus of the municipalities and supplier of the administration system has always been on the continuation of services. Social domain services are back to normal. Among other things, this means that residents with benefits from the municipalities receive them at the usual time.
Safe system restart
The supplier of the administration system has been working hard to get the system back up and running as soon as possible. The system can now be safely used again. The affected system is used to process applications for welfare benefits, energy benefits and applications under the Social Support Act (Wmo) and Youth Care, among others.
