Ribbon Race 2024

On the occasion of King's Day, three residents were decorated in Kerkrade.

Mr. Nellessen receives royal decoration

Board member and secretary RKVV Haanrade (1991 - 2022). 

Mr. Nellessen held the role of secretary on the board. Not only was he an active board member, he also played a central role as a motivator. In addition to administrative functions, he was a referee and linesman for many years. Especially in the difficult period of the association, he is described as "a rock in the fire. He always performed his function as secretary with great enthusiasm. He was also one of the initiators of the merger between RKVV Haanrade and S.V.A., something that turned out to be very positive and where he later became chairman.

Board of Parent Association B.S. De Veldhof (2005 to 2018)

Mr. Nellessen had been a member of Parent Association de Veldhof since the 2005-2006 school year. First as a member and later in the position of treasurer. He handed over this position at the end of the 2017-2018 school year. 

Chairman Carnival Committee B.S. De Veldhof (2007 to 2018).

He co-founded a carnival committee and organized the running of the children's parade in Kerkrade and the parade in Eygelshoven.

St. Nicholas (2013 to present)

Mr. Nellessen performed the duties of Sinterklaas in a fantastic way, faithfully following the Sinterklaas news and of course keeping a close eye on the activities at school surrounding the upcoming visit of Sinterklaas so that Sinterklaas always had an answer to all the children's questions.

With years of experience, commitment and dedication to the club, Mr. Nellessen was nominated as the ideal candidate for this role. In the years leading up to the merger, he held various roles on the board (secretary, technical affairs, volunteers) and took the lead in the merger process. Both as initiator and shaping and working out the merger.

Age: 65 years
Member in the Order of Orange Nassau

Mr. Cremers has been active non-stop in volunteer work since 1980. He dedicates himself selflessly and is appreciated in performing his volunteer work with the soccer clubs KVC Oranje, RKTSV and Laura Hopel Combinatie. Besides volunteering with these soccer clubs in the past, he has been active as a volunteer at Rolduc Abbey in Kerkrade as a guide of the historical tours since July 2022. He is also still active as a referee with the Roda JC, KVC Oranje and Laura Hopel Combinatie soccer clubs. Mr. Cremers has been continuously active as a volunteer in the municipality of Kerkrade for 43 years:

  • Organizer of youth evenings Football Association KVC Oranje (1988 to 1994)
  • Organizer of scavenger hunts Football Association KVC Oranje (1988 to 1994)
  • Organizer and president of carnival association Football Association KVC Orange (1988 to 1994)
  • Organizer of Saint Nicholas afternoon Football Association KVC Oranje (1988 to 1994)

Mr. Cremers is a social person who likes to be among people. He provides youth with structure and enjoyment in sports. He is described as a gentle and thoughtful person. In addition, he still enjoys working as a volunteer with the various organizations.

Age: 69 years
Member in the Order of Orange Nassau

Mr. Paulissen loves sociability. Everywhere he goes he lends a hand and is an example to many regarding his commitment. The Koninklijke Harmonieorkest Kerkrade can count for years on his commitment regarding the recruitment of sponsors but also for giving lessons to the youth. Nothing is too much for him. The WMC is close to his heart and he is involved in it every year and the Orange Society can also count on his support. Even his health does not stop him from still spending many hours volunteering. He can talk for hours about all he has experienced during his years with the various associations:

  • President of Skittles Club (2000 to present)
  • Board Member Neighborhood Association the Bouwerwie (2007 to present)
    Responsible for maintenance of the crib incl. restoration but in addition he helps with neighborhood association activities such as building and organizing the annual holiday weekend and Easter egg hunt, collecting monthly dues in his neighborhood, visiting new residents in the neighborhood and distributing the newspaper.
  • Volunteer Fringe Organization Working Group WMC (2009 to present)
    The Fringe Working Group organizes and facilitates performances for participants from all parts of the world who do not participate in the competition elements of the WMC. Mr. Paulissen maintains contacts with the participants with unbridled dedication. He actively participates in the preparations for the WMC and works many hours a day during the WMC.
  • Member working group Performances Participating Musicians WMC (2013 to present)
    As a member of the working group, Mr. Pauissen has been particularly committed to the success of the mission to connect different cultures and music with the Kerkrade population.
  • Member Orange Association Kerkrade (2014 to present)
    Solicited and unsolicited, Mr. Paulissen helps organize Orange Association activities such as King's Day, Remembrance of the Dead and Liberation Day activities and the annual peace vigil.
  • Acquisition and sponsor acquisition Royal Concert Orchestra Kerkrade (2015 to present)
    Mr. Paulissen is active in maintaining contact with sponsors, members, and anyone who cares about the concert band. They only have to ask him something and if possible he will do it.
