More focus on prevention for healthy and safe growing up in Kerkrade
Prevention can help prevent problems in children and youth. Kerkrade's youth need extra attention in a number of areas, such as educational disadvantage, obesity and a safe home situation. This is why the municipality of Kerkrade is firmly committed to preventive measures for children and young people. A new core team is getting to work on a complete program for healthy, safe and promising growing up.
Prevention can ensure that more expensive and intensive youth care is not needed. Especially when it comes to, for example, school absenteeism, child abuse and psychological or social problems within or outside the family. It can also happen that small problems become bigger and children and families need intensive help. Prevention is also important because it costs less money. Less youth aid is then needed, less Health and less deployment of enforcers or police officers.
Alderman René van Drunen (Youth): "With this approach, we are working towards multiple goals. We want youth to grow up healthy, safe and promising. Furthermore, we want to prevent small questions from becoming big problems. In this way we ensure that children go through less difficult processes. By being there early, expensive and intensive Health is less often needed. I wish that for all children and all parents."
