Minister Hugo de Jonge visits municipality of Kerkrade

Today, outgoing Minister Hugo de Jonge paid a working visit to Kerkrade. With support from the state, Kerkrade is working hard to create new quality housing and improve livability.

Mayor Petra Dassen and Alderman Tim Weijers together with the minister visited the new construction project Centro Meta and the restructuring area Rolduckerveld. There, the minister also talked to residents about developments in their neighborhoods.

Minister Hugo de Jonge (Interior and Kingdom Relations): "I am impressed by the progress I have seen during this working visit to the municipality of Kerkrade. The new construction project Centro Meta and the restructuring area Rolduckerveld are two wonderful examples of what is possible when municipalities, city regions and local communities work together. This cooperation has produced impressive results and shows that together we can move mountains."

Alderman Tim Weijers (Wonen/Volkshuisvesting) is pleased with the minister's visit: "Good that there is interest from The Hague for the developments in our region. Together with project developers, housing corporations and the city region we are working decisively to improve and future-proof the housing market. This requires time and money. Fortunately, the State also endorses this and we receive financial support for this from the State. For the realization of our ambitions around our housing offensive, we can make good use of this support."
