New dog walking field with dog play area opened on Spekhof Street
Would you like to let your dog run and play on Spekhof Street? If so, you can now visit the new loose-leash field with dog playground. This is because the old loose-leash field has been officially moved and upgraded since last week.
Due to the sale of the Kerkrade-West sports hall, we had to discontinue the dog-walking area next to the building. Together with dog owners in the neighborhood, we started looking for a new place.
And fortunately, dog owners do not have to walk much further: in fact, a little further down the street, next to playground the Heidsjer Hofje, there was a piece of land that was not being used. Since last week, this spot is officially a new dog walking field with dog playground.
Collaboration with neighborhood dog owners
Together with local residents, the layout of the field was looked at. As a result, the field has not only been moved but also upgraded. It now has two functions: one half is an exercise field where dogs can run around. The other half is a field with dog play equipment where owners can train their dogs and where dogs can play with each other. The halves, of course, are separated by a fence.
Alderman Alexander Geers (Public Space) took a look at the new location. "The plans to build a dog playground together with dog owners in the neighborhood had been there for some time. The disappearance of the original off-leash field due to the sale of the sports hall has accelerated things," he indicates.
The community mows the grass and empties the trash cans. Neighbors will play an important role in the supervision and minor maintenance of the playground equipment. Several people have already volunteered.
