New code of conduct for council and committee members
The City Council of the Municipality of Kerkrade has adopted a new code of conduct for council and committee members. The code of conduct demonstrates the importance of governance being honest, open and trustworthy. It contains clear agreements on how administrators should work properly and honestly. In this way, residents know what they can expect from the municipality. The code of conduct also provides rules for how council members and other representatives should behave. This helps to strengthen trust between residents and government.
Chairman Sander Gorissen of the integrity committee: "With this code of conduct, we are taking a new step to keep government honest and trustworthy."
Mayor Dassen-Housen emphasizes that integrity is a shared responsibility: "Integrity is something that belongs to all of us - council members, committee members, board and residents. Only together do we ensure respectful and careful conduct. The integrity committee helps us do that."
Prior to the council and committee meetings in September, all members will receive a printed copy of the code of conduct. By doing so, the Municipality of Kerkrade shows that honest and transparent working is central to our local democracy.
