Newest yearbook Kerkrade Underway

The Kerkrade Historical Circle Foundation will present its latest yearbook July 4 under the title Kerkrade Underway. It is already the twenty-seventh edition with once again special contributions on local history. Kerkrade's history is rich in events and has special stories and outstanding people. Featured this time is a very extensive article by historian Mike Kockelkoren on the role of the municipal government in the alienation-acquisition cq. appropriation and expropriation of Jewish property in the municipality. The article reflects a study commissioned by the municipality of Kerkrade.

The new issue also includes a story about the history of the family business Electro World Benly in Eygelshoven by René Zandvoort, author Wim Nolten's research describes the inhabitants of Eygelshoven and Kerkrade through documents and events, the cemetery of Rolduc Abbey by Catharina Scholtens, the life of chaplain Hein Lochtman by Joost Reinaerts, about the late Wiel Klinkenberg by Jotja Ingrid Bessems, from Eygelshoven and those who died in WWII in German service by Wim Slangen, an addition to the article "Negotie in Kerkrade West" by Marcel Mohr, the family history of Schillings-Creuels-DiGiulio by Chris Kuikman and the first probation officer Jac. Beunen in the Eastern Mining Region by Hub Beunen and Marcel Krutzen.

The new edition once again demonstrates the value of recording special Kerkrade occasions in a yearbook. The stories are often illustrated with photographs and documents. Only thanks to the efforts of writers from within and outside the circle can a yearbook be published every year. The yearbook costs 19.50 euros in the bookstore. The presentation of the yearbook will take place on Thursday, July 4, at 4 p.m. in the Civic Hall in the Town Hall. Visitors are welcome as early as 3:30 p.m. The book will be available from July 5 at various bookstores such as Deurenberg, Rolduc, Wittem OCGL and EDDEH. The book will also be available at the Town Hall on the day of the presentation. If you would like to attend the presentation, please email historischekringkerkrade@gmail.com before June 27.
