Now deposit on small plastic bottles as well
From July 1, 2021, there will be a €0.15 deposit on small plastic bottles of soft drinks and water. This encourages the reuse of plastic bottles and helps reduce litter.
You pay this deposit when you buy the bottle and get it back when you return the bottle to a collection point. This has been the case for large bottles for some time. The deposit on large bottles remains the same, at €0.25 per bottle.
How do I recognize a deposit bottle?
Starting July 1, 2021, you can recognize large and small deposit bottles by the logo below. The color of the logo may vary.
No longer in the PMD bag
This means that if you see this logo on a bottle(s), you do not have to dispose of the bottle via PMD waste, but can hand it in at a collection point.
Transition from old to new
You can already encounter these bottles in stores now. So even if you buy a bottle with the deposit logo in June, you are already paying a deposit. Conversely, it is also possible that you will encounter bottles without the logo for a while after July 1. This has to do with the transition period.
Why deposit on small bottles?
This way we can better prevent litter. Of course, we don't want bottles ending up on the street or in the wild. Bottles that are handed in are recycled and reused.
