Official opening Pastor Knubben square
On Sunday morning, June 26, the "Pastor Knubben Square" was officially opened next to St. Martin's Church in Spekholzerheide.
The square was named after Pastor Bert Knubben (1939-2020) at the request of local residents because of his great significance to the people of Kerkrade West. The square is opposite the house where he lived.
About Pastor Knubben
Pastor Knubben was very involved socially. His life was at the service of the church but especially of his fellow man. For years he devoted himself to the faith community of the parishes in Kerkrade-West and beyond. In doing so he created a close bond within the faith community and the community of Kerkrade West.
In 2016, he received the Golden Medal of Honor of the Municipality of Kerkrade for his achievements.
Unveiling of street sign
Alderman John Roland (District Councilor West) opened the square with Pastor Knubben's sister. They did so by unveiling the street sign. Present at the unveiling were family members of Pastor Knubben, Pastor Frank Sweer of the parish of St. Martinus Spekholzerheide and the associations of Kerkrade West.
