The Electoral Council will again provide the "election support software" (OSV) application for parties in December 2021. This software supports parties in preparing candidate lists and creating the various associated templates. Keep an eye on the Electoral Council's web page. On this page, you can download the software as soon as it is made available.

Note! This is only supporting software: the paper process is and will remain leading in the Central Ballot Bureau's decision-making.

Method of listing candidates on the list

For the method of listing candidates on candidate lists, Articles H 2 and R 2 of the Elections Decree provide several Requirements, including:

  • a. The candidate shall be listed consecutively with surname all initials, date of birth and municipality or place of residence, as evidenced by the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP).
  • b. A period ('.') follows each initial.
  • c. Each individual given name is shortened to one initial. Thus the given name "Theo" becomes "T" and not "Th."; Willem-Alexander (with hyphen) becomes "W." and not "W.A."; and Willem Alexander (without hyphen) becomes "W.A." and not "W."
  • d. Prefixes to the surname are listed before the surname and written in lower case unless the BRP shows that the prefix should indeed be capitalized.
  • e. Further designations of the name, if abbreviated in the usual manner, may be added to the name. Such further designations shall include only the designations sr. and jr. and abbreviations of patronymics.
  • f. Noble titles and predicates are considered part of the surname and may be listed as such before the surname on the list of candidates. In doing so, noble titles are written in full and predicates are abbreviated.
  • g. Academic titles and military ranks are not mentioned; such as professor, mr. or ko-lonel.
  • h. To the entry of a place of residence outside the Netherlands, the two-letter country code, as shown in ISO standard 3166, shall be added in brackets.
  • i. Obvious clerical errors of minor importance will be corrected ex officio by the Central Election Bureau during the examination of the lists.
