Research waste heat from Herzogenrath
Municipality of Kerkrade, City Region Parkstad and Stadt Herzogenrath are investigating the possibility of using the residual heat from glass factory Saint Gobain in Herzogenrath to heat 7,000 households in Kerkrade, Eygelshoven and Landgraaf. To start the cooperation, the three have signed a contract.
Now the heat from the factory is still lost. In time, Herzogenrath will use this heat to heat homes, but much will still remain. Over the next three months, the feasibility of the plan will be examined. Issues such as legal regulations, technical possibilities and financial feasibility are being considered. Saint Gobain is enthusiastic because it allows the company to contribute to the success of the climate goals. The municipality of Kerkrade is very pleased with this opportunity to heat homes with heat that already exists. The cooperation across the border is unique in Europe and can be an example for others to follow.
