Hammolenweg Ukrainian refugee shelter opens

The Hammolen Road shelter for war refugees from Ukraine opens this week. The first set of housing units has been installed. During the week, the first temporary residents will arrive. The site is expected to be fully furnished by spring.

The new shelter will be in operation for up to 2 years. Several dozen refugees can now be accommodated in the first set of housing units. There will eventually be a total of 72 housing units on the site to accommodate up to 200 refugees from Ukraine. Work to place all the housing units will continue into the spring.

Open Day

Local residents came to take a look at the shelter last Saturday. They were given a tour and were able to see for themselves how the grounds and housing units are laid out.

Safety

To ensure safety for the refugees and local residents, camera surveillance and 24-hour security have been set up.
