Agreement Tiny Houses Carisborg

This summer, five Tiny Houses will be placed on the site of the former field hockey fields in Carisborg, Haanrade. On Wednesday, March 23, Alderman Tim Weijers (Wonen/Ruimtelijke Ordening) and Sybille Spiekers (Vereniging Tiny Wonen Carisborg) signed an agreement for this.

Alderman Weijers: "We are experimenting with a new form of living with the Tiny Houses. There is clearly a demand for this. And adding habitation will increase livability, social control and safety in this part of Carisborg."

Other form of living

Tiny Houses offer a different form of living where residents pursue a sustainable lifestyle and are close to nature.

Mrs. Spiekers: "We are extremely pleased with the designated location in a beautiful natural area. No doubt we will soon feel at home in Carisborg. This pilot emphasizes our philosophy; live small, live big."

Carisborg nature reserve

The pilot with the five Tiny Houses contributes to the upgrading of the Carisborg nature reserve. Adjacent to the area where the cottages will be located, the second life tree forest and also a life tree avenue were opened in November 2021 where 188 trees were adopted by residents. The planting of a third life tree forest on the former main field of the field hockey club in the 2022/2023 planting season completes this upgrade.

Involvement of local residents

Throughout the planning process, the Municipality of Kerkrade has kept the immediate neighbors of the Carisborg nature reserve closely informed and involved. Through this redevelopment of Carisborg, the municipality is largely accommodating the local residents; returning the land to nature.
