Parkstad and Enexis make agreements to strengthen the power grid more quickly
The municipalities in Parkstad and network operator Enexis have made new agreements to enable faster expansion of the power grid. This is necessary because more and more people are driving electric cars, making their homes more sustainable, and using solar panels. The current power grid will not be able to cope with this growth in the long term.
With the new Detailed Agreement on Neighborhood Approach (NOK), Parkstad has agreed with Enexis on how to organize the work as efficiently as possible. This will allow the power grid in our region—and therefore also in Kerkrade—to be upgraded more quickly. Parkstad is the first region in the Netherlands to conclude such a supplementary agreement with Enexis.
What does this mean for Kerkrade?
The power grid in our municipality will also need to be significantly expanded in the coming years. This means that more and thicker electricity cables will be laid underground and that additional transformer stations will be required.
The agreements ensure that the municipality of Kerkrade, Enexis, and other partners can work together more effectively. This allows work to be combined in a smart way, for example with road maintenance or other projects in the street.
Alderman Heijltjes, Municipality of Kerkrade:
“In Kerkrade, too, we are noticing that the power grid is becoming increasingly congested. To ensure that our residents and businesses have sufficient power in the future, we need to take major steps now. We are not doing this alone, but together with the other Parkstad municipalities and Enexis. The new agreements will enable us to carry out the work faster and smarter, while keeping a close eye on the quality of life in our neighborhoods. I am pleased that Parkstad is taking the lead in this — and that Kerkrade is making an important contribution to this major regional challenge."
