Memorial Day and Liberation Day program 2021

Once again this year, due to the corona virus, the Orange Society Kerkrade has put together an alternative program for the Memorial Day and Liberation Day.

Memorial Day May 4, 2021

There will be no Silent March. Interested parties may lay flowers at the Peace Monument on the Hoofdstraat in Kerkrade between 10:00 and 19:00.

The mayors of Kerkrade and of Herzogenrath, together with the presidents of the Orange Associations of Kerkrade and Herzogenrath, will walk the route of the Silent March at 7 p.m. and lay flowers at the Indië Monument, located at the former Ministry of Defense building and then walk via the Evacuation Monument to the Peace Monument.

Starting at 19:30, the Kerkrade Commemoration of the Dead can be followed live. The link of the livestream will be announced to you via Facebook on May 4.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, trumpeter René Schurer, soprano Floor Bosman and piper Henrico Lumeij will lend their musical assistance. Speakers are Mayor Petra Dassen-Housen, Dean Stef Nevelstein and chairman of the Kerkrade Orange Association and ambassador of the Royal Union of Orange Associations, Hans Schillings. The presentation is in the hands of Vivian Lataster. As throughout the country, two minutes of silence will be observed at 8 p.m.

Liberation Day May 5, 2021

On May 5, we celebrate Liberation Day under the motto "peace, freedom, tolerance and togetherness," the motto of the Kerkrade Orange Association.
Due to corona measures, there will be no outdoor activities.
However, the Kerkrade Orange Society will hand out 'apples of Orange' that day at the municipal Enforcement, the Dekenaat Kerkrade, police and fire department. This as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for the much and good work they do, in these difficult times.

Flags

The Orange Association calls on Kerkrade residents to flag on May 4 and 5, 2021. This as a sign of solidarity. On May 4 the Dutch flag can be raised at half mast and on May 5 the flag may be raised. During the year many more activities and projects will follow on the initiative of the Kerkrade Orange Society. Details will be announced at a later date.
