Disaster fund pays out to severely flood-affected Limburgers

The grant application deadline has been extended to Sept. 1. Starting Friday, Aug. 20, the application form will be available again.

The Action Giro 777 of the National Disaster Fund Foundation (NRF) has raised over 10 million euros. The more than 150,000 donors have thus shown their commitment to the disaster and their sympathy for the people of Limburg. The Disaster Relief Fund therefore wants to make a one-time donation of up to 1,000 euros to all seriously affected households. A donation to alleviate the suffering a little and to give heart to all seriously affected people.

To ensure that the money actually reaches the affected households, the Limburg municipalities have prepared a joint single application form. This form can be found on the BsGW website (Registration is no longer possible).

Requirements

The eligibility criteria for the gift are:

  1. This is a household with a dwelling located in a street, or part of a street, known to the municipality as flooded. Thus, the application form is NOT for a business or company.

  2. There must be substantial damage due to flooding/flooding at minimum plinth height. This refers to damage in living quarters on the first floor. Damage to the basement, storage room and/or garden is therefore not covered by this regulation. This must be demonstrated during any property inspection.

Request

People who meet the Requirements and may be eligible for a gift can apply from Aug. 6 through Aug. 16, 2021 (Application again possible from Aug. 20 through Sept. 1). Applications will then be reviewed and processed, if at all possible, by September 1, 2021.

Other support

The National Disaster Relief Fund is one of the organizations that help with damages suffered. In addition to this fund, affected families and businesses can contact their own insurer. In addition, the government has officially declared the floods in Limburg a disaster. This means that the "Disaster Damage Compensation Act" is in effect. This makes it possible for affected residents and businesses to receive compensation if the insurance does not (fully) compensate the damage. The corresponding regulation is expected to be adopted in the second half of August.

People may also experience psychological problems due to the floods. Victim Support offers a listening ear and psychological support. They can be reached Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. by calling 0900-0101.
