D'r Pool recreation complex makes way for new homes

Recreational complex D'r Pool in Kerkrade-Centrum will be demolished in early 2023. At the site where the swimming pool is currently located, space will be freed up for new housing.

Kerkrade Municipality is currently busy with the preparations needed to demolish the old building and develop new ideas for the area. On the site that will become vacant, new owner-occupied homes will be built. These will be sustainable town houses and apartments with private parking.
The intention is that the area will soon have a new, fresher, greener and more modern appearance. A place where one can live pleasantly, with all the amenities of the center nearby.

Proposal for the area

The municipality is not doing this alone. We have now asked four urban planning and architecture firms for their ideas for the area. All four will make a proposal in which they show us what they think the area could look like in the future. In December, the municipality will choose one proposal that will be further developed into an urban development plan. This is a drawing that shows what an area will look like and where all components, such as housing, greenery, roads and parking spaces are shown.

Help and advice from local residents

In developing this plan, the help and advice of the residents of the area are very important to us. They have therefore also been invited to help think about how the site should look. We will start working on this from January 2022. Alderman Tim Weijers (Spatial Planning / Housing): "We are getting more and more signals that there is a great demand for quality new housing in the center and on this site we have space for this. Local residents will also be expressly involved in the plans for the area. After all, it is about their living environment."

Planning

We expect the urban plan to be completed around May 2022. Demolition of the building is scheduled for early 2023 and will take several months. Preparations for construction of the new homes will take until the fall of 2023. Construction will then start in late 2023 / early 2024.
