Driving license lost or stolen

What is it?

Have you lost your driver's license, has it been stolen or is someone misusing it? Then apply for a new driver's license.

It is wise that you first report the loss or theft to the RDW before applying for a new driver's license. You can do this online.

How does it work?

Requirements when reporting lost, stolen or misused driver's license online

  • You have a Dutch driving license
  • Your driver's license has not been previously reported missing/stolen
  • You have DigiD

What to do.

Have you lost your Dutch driver's license or has your license been stolen? Or is someone misusing it?

Then declare your driver's license invalid through the RDW.

Here's how it works

  1. You log in via the "Report missing driver's license" button using DigiD .
  2. Fill in the information and click submit.
  3. You will receive an e-mail from the RDW. They immediately block your driver's license so no one can abuse it.
  4. In addition, you will receive a letter confirming that your driver's license is invalid.
  5. Apply for a new driver's license at your municipality or do so online at the RDW.

Notice! It is not possible to reverse a report of loss, theft or abuse.

Application fails

Do you not have DigiD and/or the application does not succeed online? Then fill out a declaration of absence at the municipality.
