Working together on what can be done: Kerkrade concludes new contracts for Wmo

The municipality of Kerkrade has entered into new contracts with care providers for household assistance and guidance, day activity and short-term stay within the Social Support Act (Wmo). These contracts take effect on January 1, 2026. This step marks an important milestone in the transformation of the social domain, focusing on sustainable, integral support for residents in the neighborhood.

It is important for people to be able to live independently at home for as long as possible. And that they can participate in everyday life. However, some people cannot manage at home on their own. This is where the municipality of Kerkrade helps with these new contracts. Strengthening the self-reliance and social participation of residents is central to this. Residents are supported as much as possible within their own network and living environment. The focus is on what a person can still do and not on their limitations. This vision is fully endorsed by the contracted parties, who are committed to a preventive and neighborhood-oriented approach to Health and support.

Strong network with shared vision

From January 1, 2026, the new contracts with the providers will take effect. The providers work closely with welfare organization Impuls and the Social Support Advisory Council (AMO). Together, all parties form a strong network committed to providing appropriate support close to the resident. Residents can report in different ways and are helped as much as possible in their own neighborhood. This ensures that help is available quickly and effectively for those who need it.

"By working closely with welfare, Health and the AMO and by investing in self-reliance, we ensure efficient and future-proof support. With these new contracts we put quality, customization and strengthening the social base in our neighborhoods at number 1," explained Alderman Jo Paas (Wmo).

What does this mean for residents?

Residents of Kerkrade who need support can contact the municipality's access point by telephone, via the website or through a district office. There, the municipality works with them to assess their situation and what form of assistance is best suited. Contracted care providers provide specialist support if necessary.

A shared mission

The municipality of Kerkrade works with partners over the long term to provide sustainable and integral support to resident. The social basis is the starting point. Problems are growing among vulnerable residents in Kerkrade, but also nationally. This is precisely why it is very important for every resident to be able to manage themselves as well as possible, participate in society and have as much quality of life as possible. Control over one's own life is the most important starting point.
