College composition and portfolio distribution

In addition to the mayor, the Kerkrade College has six aldermen spread over 5.6 FTEs.

Each Alderman has different policy areas for which he is responsible. Aldermen are appointed by the municipal council. In Kerkrade, the municipal council has 29 members. The College of Mayor and Aldermen operates as a collective, meaning that together they are responsible for the policies pursued by each of them.

Municipal Secretary Raph Stijns is the head of the civil service organization and assists the college administratively. He is appointed by the college.
