City Council composition

The municipality of Kerkrade has 29 council members.

As a rule, municipal elections are held once every four years. In principle, any resident aged 18 or older can become a member of the municipal council. The political parties, both national and local, that are active within a municipality draw up a list of candidates from which voters can then make a choice. The composition of the municipal council thus changes at least once every four years, but can also change in the interim due to the departure of a council member, for example. Council members must live within the municipal boundaries.
