Demolition and/or asbestos removal
If you wish to demolish and/or remove asbestos from all or part of a home, structure or object, you must submit a demolition notification. The form for submitting a demolition notification can be found on the Omgevingsloket.
If you are going to perform demolition work on a monument or in a protected town and village view, an environmental permit for the demolition component is always required.
Demolish
"Demolition" means the demolition of all or part of a structure. Conversions may therefore involve partial demolition. In both cases, a demolition notification is required. If the total demolition waste generated is less than 10 cubic meters (m3), no notification is required. However, if you demolish where asbestos is also removed, then a demolition notification is always required regardless of the amount of demolition waste.
A demolition notification is submitted to the municipality via the Environment Desk at least four weeks before the intended start of demolition work.
This notification must be complete and often an asbestos inventory report must be attached. An asbestos inventory report is not required if the work is done in or on a structure or part thereof built after Jan. 1, 1994.
Asbestos
A demolition notification is always required for the removal of asbestos. Asbestos is a collective term for minerals found in nature. These minerals are composed of fine and very small fibers. The material has useful properties: it is strong, wear-resistant, insulating, fire-resistant and non-conductive. Asbestos was therefore widely used in homes, structures and objects well into the 1980s.
In the Netherlands, over 80% of imported asbestos is processed into products such as corrugated sheets and sewer pipes. Asbestos in or around the house is not dangerous if it is attached to other material. The processing and handling of asbestos has been prohibited since July 1, 1993. More information about asbestos can be found on the website of the Information Point Living Environment (IPLO)
Asbestos removal as an individual
An individual may remove asbestos themselves in certain situations. Information about this can be found at Information Point Environment
A demolition notification for private removal according to the Game Rules for Private Removal is submitted to the municipality through the Environment Desk at least one week before the intended start of the asbestos work.
The asbestos can be delivered free of charge to one of Rd4's resource parks. After the notification has been reviewed, you will receive a written proof to deliver the asbestos to the resource park. This certificate also contains the regulations for packaging and delivery of the asbestos.
Commercial asbestos removal
Do you have a business where asbestos has been found and you want to remove it? Or are you removing more than thirty-five square meters (35 m2) as a private person and/or do you not comply with the above regulations for private removal then you must always have the asbestos work done by a certified asbestos removal company. At the Asbestos Certification Foundation you can see which companies are certified for this. This website also provides an overview of certified companies for preparing an asbestos inventory report.
You are required to report your plans (demolition notification) to the municipality at least four weeks before work begins. This notification must be complete and often an asbestos inventory report must be attached. An asbestos inventory report is not required if the work is performed in or on a structure or part thereof built after January 1, 1994.
Cost of demolition notification
No fees are charged for a demolition notification.
Illegal (asbestos) dumping
If you find asbestos in the street or public (green) area, please report it to the Environment and Building Department of the Municipality of Kerkrade at 14-045.
