Speaking Minds: young people advise municipality

The students of VMBO-t grade 3 of BCPL HOLZ worked hard during a project week to advise the municipality on the topic "How can young people feel safer in Kerkrade?"

It was quite an experience to present the opinions in the council chamber to an audience including Alderman van Drunen. Despite some nervousness, the young people did a super job!

Speaking Minds is a program to help municipalities and provinces with youth participation. The method was developed together with young people from practical education, vmbo and mbo. The participating young people learn how policy is created, how they can make their voices heard and what benefits they derive from this. The goal is a more effective and democratic youth policy that meets the needs of young people in the Netherlands.
