Rolduc sports hall designated as transit site for Ukrainian refugees

In Kerkrade Sporthal Rolduc on Rolduckerstraat has been designated as a flow-through location for Ukrainian refugees in South Limburg. Rolduc sports hall will soon be set up as a second transit location next to Glanerbrook in Geleen. Ukrainian refugees without a residential address can be accommodated here when there are no more available places in Glanerbrook.

Rolduc Sports Hall to become second flow-through location effective immediately

Currently, Sporthal Rolduc is being made available as a second flow-through location for Ukrainian refugees. This means that when the first flow-through location at Glanerbrook in Geleen runs out of space, refugees will be housed in the second flow-through location Sporthal Rolduc. This may already be in the short term, but may also take some time. It depends on the size of the influx of refugees. Places will be set up for about 200 refugees who will spend one or a few nights there while waiting for a place for a longer period of time.

Rolduc Sports Hall first flow-through location no later than July 21

Rolduc sports hall will become the first transit location in South Limburg for Ukrainian refugees by July 21. Glanerbrook will then be closed. Local residents and users of Sporthal Rolduc have been personally informed about the establishment of the flow-through location. Rolduc Sports Hall will remain in use as a flow-through location until October 1, 2022.

Reception of refugees in Kerkrade

Mayor Petra Dassen on the sports hall as a transit location: "The municipalities in South Limburg are jointly providing emergency shelter for refugees in the local community. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Kerkrade has already accommodated over 100 refugees in Abdijhotel Rolduc. We are also happy to make Sporthal Rolduc available as a transit location when needed. Together with the associations using the sports hall, we are looking for suitable alternatives so that they can continue their activities. We are counting on some flexibility given the circumstances. It is nice that we can do something for people in need and that we can offer peace of mind and safety this way."

In Kerkrade, some 100 refugees from Ukraine have already been accommodated for a longer period of time in demolition apartments in Rolduckerveld and in an empty Meander care facility. A working group from the municipality accompanies the group and helps with arranging things such as registration in the Basic Registration of Personal Data, doctor visits and getting acquainted with the rules in the Netherlands.
