Status of works Waubacherweg
Since February 2021, the municipality of Kerkrade has been working on the reconstruction of Waubacherweg.
During this work, Waubacherweg will be modified and redesigned along its entire length. With the exception of the intersection with Gravenweg, this will not be addressed until a later date.
Planning the work
The work will be carried out in several phases in succession:
- Section from Gravenweg to Rimburgerweg (completed).
- Section from Landgraaf municipal boundary to the intersection with Gravenweg (rounded)
- Rimburgerweg traffic circle (in progress).
- Section from the traffic circle to Veldhof Street (planned)
We will inform you of the applicable detour each time before the start of each phase.
Modified design after flooding
After the heavy flooding at the beginning of this month, we have worked with the contractor to adjust the design of the reconstruction to minimize the likelihood of these problems in the future. This has taken extra time; as a result, the schedule of work has been adjusted.
Adjusted schedule work
Currently, work on Rimburgerweg traffic circle has resumed.
This will be done in three sections according to the following modified time schedule (depending on weather conditions):
- Week 30 and 31: section of traffic circle and section up to junction Nieuwenhagerweg
- Week 32 to 34: interruption of work due to construction vacations
- Week 35 and 36: section towards Eygelshoven (rail tunnel).
- Week 37 and 38: removing the bypass and dismantling the traffic circle
- Detour during the work
- During work on the Rimburgerweg traffic circle, the following detours will be posted:
- Week 30 to 34: traffic from Gravenweg towards Rimburgerweg will be routed along the works via the existing bypass. Traffic to and from Eygelshoven center will remain via the Churchilllaan and Kennedylaan bypass.
- Week 35 and 36: traffic to and from Eygelshoven center will continue to take place over the Churchilllaan and Kennedylaan detour. In addition, traffic to and from Eygelshoven will be diverted via Torenstraat and the outer ring road.
- Week 37 and 38: traffic to and from Eygelshoven center will go via Churchilllaan and Kennedylaan. Traffic to and from Rimburgerweg will be diverted via Groenstraat (Landgraaf).
