Start of road reconstruction Kaalheidersteenweg between Akerstraat and Dahlia Street

Starting Monday, March 22, the Municipality of Kerkrade is working on the reconstruction of the first section of Kaalheidersteenweg, between Akerstraat and Dahliastraat.

The reconstruction is necessary to keep the Kaalheidersteenweg safe and future-proof, which is important because this is the only way to keep Kerkrade easily accessible for everyone who lives, works or visits the sights in and around the town.

Planning the work

The work will be carried out in several phases in succession. During the first phase, work will primarily be done on the main roadway; this work is expected to be completed by June 2021.

During this period, homes will be accessible via the parallel roads. A road detour will be marked for through traffic.
In the following phase, work will be done on the parallel roads. The total project is expected to last through October 2021.

Bus routes and emergency services

Bus service and emergency services have been informed of the work.
Arriva will schedule an alternate route for buses. The alternate route will be posted at the bus stops that will be taken out of service.

'Brick roads' reconstruction

Over the next few years, the 'Steenwegen' will be tackled in sections. Work on Heerlenersteenweg has now been completed. Soon work will also start on the Valkenhuizenlaan. We will keep you informed about the work and the applicable detour.
