Start of work on unsecured railroad crossing Torenstraat Eygelshoven
ProRail and contractor Strukton will begin work on closing the unsecured level crossing on Torenstraat in Eygelshoven in early July.
A pedestrian tunnel to the hiking area in the Schoufferts Forest will be built where the NABO (not actively secured level crossing) is currently located. If all goes according to plan, this pedestrian tunnel will open at the end of November 2022.
Work in July and November
In July, ProRail and Strukton will first remove the level crossing. They will close the path to the level crossing. No trains will run temporarily during the work on the weekend of July 8-11, 2022.
In mid-November, ProRail and Strukton will construct the new tunnel. Trains will again be temporarily out of service. By the end of November 2022, pedestrians will be able to use the new tunnel.
From early July to late November, you cannot cross the tracks
From the beginning of July to the end of November (a period of five months), you will not be able to cross the tracks at Torenstraat. During this period, it is best to use the underpass at Waubacherweg near Eygelshoven Markt station.
Road closures and detour routes
ProRail's traffic measures are of a limited and temporary nature and are aligned with those currently in place at Gravenweg and Rimburgerweg. For an overview of current work, road closures and detour, check the road traffic notification system Melvin
Local residents receive letters of information
People living near the Torenstraat level crossing will receive letters from ProRail and the municipality with more information about the work. These will state exactly what is going to happen and when.
Crossing Meuser Street
In addition to the level crossing on Tower Street, ProRail and the municipality are working together to address the unsecured level crossing on Meuser Street in Haanrade, to the Wormdal. ProRail and the municipality are preparing to build a footpath from Meuserstraat to the old underpass at the Wormdal. This will be refurbished and recommissioned. At this time, it is not clear when the work will start and the path will be ready. We will keep you informed about this.
