Energy cost recovery delayed

Delayed payment of energy allowance for low-income residents

Late last year, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced that the rijksoverheid is going to help pay for energy bills in 2022. Low-income residents will receive a contribution of about 200 euros.

Who receives an allowance?

People receiving Social assistance benefit benefits will automatically receive this amount from municipalities. Residents with a low income, for example: residents with an AOW without a supplementary pension or self-employed people with a low income can start applying to the municipality.

Disbursement delayed

The aim of the rijksoverheid is to have the allowance paid by municipalities in the 1st quarter of 2022. For the payment of the allowance, the government has to establish rules. These rules have been delayed, so the allowance may not be paid out until March or even April.

Alderman Wiermans: "We want to pay out this contribution as quickly as possible to the residents who desperately need it. The municipality of Kerkrade has already made all the preparations for this. But unfortunately we have to wait for the rules of the ministry."

More information to follow

As soon as more information is known, the government will inform all residents. The Municipality of Kerkrade will also inform its residents through municipal channels. Keep an eye on the municipality's town journal, website and social media.
