Benefit for older and partially disabled workers (IOAW).
What is it?
IOAW benefit supplements the income of older, unemployed workers and their partners to the welfare level. The letters IOAW originally stood for Inkomensvoorziening voor Oudere en gedeeltelijk Arbeidsongeschikte Werknemers. Since the advent of the WIA, the IOAW no longer applies to partially disabled unemployed workers. The IOAW prevents some groups of unemployed workers from having to rely on social assistance.
When you apply for IOAW benefit, your assets are not taken into account. You can keep assets such as your own house and savings. However, your partner's income will be deducted from the IOAW benefit. The number of people in your household determines the amount of your IOAW benefit. If you live with more people in the house, you can share living expenses and your IOAW benefit will be lower.
You can get benefits from the municipality if you were born before January 1, 1965, and became unemployed after your 50th birthday. This is called IOAW benefit. You will only get this benefit if you have insufficient income to live on. You will receive the benefit after your WW benefit has stopped.
How does it work?
You are eligible for IOAW benefits if:
- You became unemployed after age 50 but before age 60 and received unemployment benefits for 3 months or more.
- You became partially disabled on or after age 50 and were entitled to WGA benefits, but were declared disabled for less than 35% after a reexamination.
- You are partially disabled (less than 80%) and you were already receiving IOAW benefit on December 28, 2005, but you are not entitled to a supplement through the Supplemental Benefits Act, because you have a partner born after December 31, 1971, and you do not have a child under the age of 12.
- You are willing to provide consideration in the form of socially useful work, such as volunteer work.
- Are the spouse (or equivalent partner) of the persons described above.
- If you are married or living together, you must apply for the benefit with your partner.
What to do?
We feel responsible for the health of our customers and employees. Therefore, to prevent further spread of the Coronavirus, we have chosen to limit social contacts in the form of conversations.
This also applies to conversations related to IOAW benefits. If you want to be considered for IOAW benefit, you can contact the municipality of Kerkrade by phone at 14-045 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon.
I reported, then what happens?
The municipality will confirm the notification by letter, inviting you to a meeting with a staff member. In this invitation the municipality makes clear where and when the interview will take place and what the interview will be about. The municipality also provides information about the possibility of free help.
The municipality collects all the data about your situation that is needed for the interview. If it involves data that the municipality cannot see itself, the municipality will ask you to provide that data. The invitation to the interview will make it clear what data these are.
After the notification and interview with a municipal employee, you can submit an application according to the rules that apply. The application can be submitted in writing using an application form provided by the municipality. You will be given this application form at the end of the interview.
What should I bring?
Always bring proof of identity with you. During your first personal interview with a municipal employee, you will be told what information you need to provide to the municipality for the application.
How long does it take?
Once you have provided all the information, you will be notified within 8 weeks. Four weeks after the application, you are entitled to an advance payment.
