Benefit for older and partially disabled self-employed persons (IOAZ).

What is it?

You can get benefits from the municipality if you are 55 or older and stop working as a self-employed person. This is called IOAZ benefit. You will only get this benefit if you have insufficient income to live on.

You can apply for the benefit if you have to stop being self-employed or sell your own business. You apply for the benefit at the municipality.

How does it work?

You can get IOAZ benefits if you meet some Requirements:

  • You have stopped or need to stop being self-employed.
  • You are between the age of 55 and retirement age.
  • You have insufficient income to live on.
  • You have been self-employed for at least 10 years. Or you have been self-employed for 3 years and worked as an employee for 7 years before that.
  • You worked 1225 hours or more per year as a self-employed person. Did your partner also work in the business? Then you must have worked at least 875 hours per year in the business and your partner at least 525 hours.
  • The profit from your business for the last 3 years, together with any other income, was less than €23,938 gross average per year.
  • You cannot earn more than €25,433 gross per year with your business in the future. The municipality examines this.

What if I am partially disabled?

Are you a partially disabled person and have stopped being self-employed? Then you can apply for IOAZ benefit if you meet these Requirements:

  • You have less than 80% disability.
  • You were already receiving IOAZ benefits on December 28, 2005.
  • You are not entitled to a supplement under the Supplementary Benefits Act (because you have a partner born after December 31, 1971).
  • You do not have a child under the age of 12.
  • You have been employed in the business for a minimum number of hours and the income of the business is not too high (see Requirements in the first listing).
