Safe in the neighborhood

Burgernet

Shortly after a robbery, burglary or if someone drives on after a collision, Burgernet sends a text message containing a short description of the suspect to people in the area. The more people participate in Burgernet, the greater the chance of being caught.

Camera surveillance in and around homes

Both organizations and private residents may decide to install cameras. Residents want to use this to secure their property and protect themselves. There are Requirements attached to this.

Cameras may not be placed everywhere. You may only record what you are responsible for, your own property. Whoever puts up a camera must ensure that the camera is directed as little as possible towards the public road or other people's property.

Personal Data Authority
Do you have questions or complaints about private cameras? For this you can not go to the municipality or police, but to the Personal Data Authority

Camera in pictures
The police often use camera images in their daily work to solve burglaries, robberies and other crimes. To know where cameras are installed and what they "see," the police use a database called "Camera in Picture.

Do you have one or more cameras hanging around or on your home or commercial property? Please let us know. The better the police have in Map where there are cameras in your neighborhood, the faster they can work to solve crimes. Suppose your home is broken into. The police then look into a database to see who has a camera in your neighborhood and can then quickly retrieve the footage to see if the perpetrator might be on it. So the police are not watching your cameras live. When you sign up, the police only know where your camera is hanging and which part of the street is being recorded. They will only contact you when an incident has occurred and the footage will be used for police purposes only in that case.

Thus, your camera not only protects your own property, but helps make your neighborhood safer at the same time.

You can register your camera(s) at www.politie.nl/cib or through your neighborhood police officer.
