Preferred location for new childcare center announced

On January 27, 2026, the Municipal Executive expressed its preference for the new children's center in the Old Hickoryplein and Smedenstraat area as the location for further development and community dialogue.

Previously, the area between Hoofdstraat and Marktstraat was also considered as a possible location. After further consideration, it was decided not to build the KC at this location. The main reason for this is that the investment costs for the area between Hoofdstraat and Marktstraat are considerably higher than for the Old Hickoryplein – Smedenstraat location.

Environmental dialogue

To further develop the plans, the municipality is organizing a community dialogue for residents living near the Old Hickoryplein – Smedenstraat area. During this meeting, the plans and the current status will be explained, and there will be opportunity for comments, ideas, and points of interest. The input of local residents will be taken into account in the follow-up process. Affected residents will receive a separate invitation for this meeting.
