Former St. John Baptist school becomes residential complex for seniors with care needs

The former School for Home and Industrial Education (from 1923) later St. Baptist Primary School (2005 - 2014) has been vacant since 2014. In cooperation with the municipality of Kerkrade, development company Fivente wants to convert the building into a place for seniors with care needs.

The new development is a residential care cluster complex intended for seniors with care indications. The building will feature 48 two-room care homes, each with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and pantry, general areas centrally located at the main entrance and adjacent to the beautiful spacious amenity garden. The new building will also be gasless and equipped with solar panels.

Tuesday, October 17, an information evening took place in Wijkpunt 't Westhoes. Here the direct neighbors were informed about the proposed building plan. Alderman Jo Paas was also present. "The redevelopment of this long-empty building into a residential complex for senior citizens is a fine example of how we in Kerkrade take into account all layers of our population. We are committed to providing a comfortable and safe environment for our seniors, and this project is an excellent example of that," said Jo Paas (Integral Elder Policy).
