Until Sept. 1, 2015, this was called "betrothal. Now it is called "notification of intended marriage or registered partnership.

Notification of proposed marriage or registered partnership

Are you getting married soon? Congratulations on this big step! Before this festive moment arrives, you will first make a notification of intended marriage or registered partnership to the municipality. This can be done in the municipality where you and your partner are getting married. Please note that you can get married from two weeks up to one year after you have notified your intended marriage or registered partnership.

How do you report a proposed marriage?

In the municipality of Kerkrade, you make your notification via our weddingApp.

Registered partnership

Are you not getting married, but would you like to officially record your relationship with your partner? Then you can opt for a registered partnership. You can also report a proposed registered partnership through our marriageApp.

Please note that if either of you was born abroad or does not have the Dutch nationality, more documents are required. In that case, please contact the municipality via telephone number 14 045.

The wedding ceremony

If you are filing a notice of intended marriage or registered partnership, you may also want to plan the ceremony as soon as possible. This is the moment when you and your partner say yes to each other. You can reserve your wedding date and time directly online in our weddingApp. However, you will need DigiD and copies (front and back) of IDs from your witnesses.

Your wedding location and registrar

In the municipality of Kerkrade, we have several official wedding venues.

If you choose an outdoor location, you must make your own arrangements with the location regarding the date and time of the wedding ceremony. Keep in mind that the outdoor location will also charge for the rental of the wedding location.

You can also indicate a preference as to who performs the ceremony. See all wedding officiants or BABSs (extraordinary civil servants). They all introduce themselves through a video so you can easily determine online which wedding officiant you prefer! To do so, click through to the Officials tab, then under the i through to 'Video'.
