Apply for your driver's license digitally
Is your driver's license due to expire soon? Or do you need a category extension? You no longer need to come to City Hall to apply. You can arrange this digitally through a recognized photographer who participates in the Digital Application for Driving Licenses (DAR).
Advantages
- Once to City Hall instead of twice (pick-up only).
- The driver's license can be applied for online 24/7.
- Pickup usually after just 2 business days (instead of 6 business days), no need to make an appointment.
How does it work?
When renewing a driver's license online, the applicant no longer has to go to City Hall to submit the application. The applicant takes a passport photo at a photographer or photo booth approved by the RDW, after which the photo is sent to the RDW. Then, using the DigiD app with ID check, the applicant can easily and quickly make the application through the RDW website.
Online application is possible only when renewing a driver's license or expanding categories. Those applying for a driving license for the first time or whose license has gone missing can only apply for it at the city office.
Approved photographer
To renew a driver's license online, a passport photo taken at a licensed photographer or photo booth is required. A list of approved photographers and photo booths can be found on the website www.rdw.nl/locatiewijzer.
