Op de Bossen volunteers receive Star Team statuette
December 7 was National Volunteer Day. This is a national day to put volunteers in the limelight. The volunteers of Residents' Initiative Op de Bossen received the Star Team statuette from the hands of Alderman Paas.
National Volunteer Day calls attention to all volunteers and other active citizens who selflessly dedicate themselves to other people or good causes. We also celebrated this day in Kerkrade. Because in our town, too, many volunteers put their heart and soul into serving the Kerkrade community every day. Alderman Jo Paas put the volunteer team of Residents' Initiative Op de Bossen in the spotlight with the Star Team statuette.
Alderman Paas: "The volunteer is 'the cement' of society. The unpaid work they do is invaluable in organizing all kinds of meetings and connections. Without all those volunteers in the municipality of Kerkrade, many of the activities that are now organized would not be possible. For this from my part, a very big 'Thank you!' to all those people who selflessly dedicate themselves to Kerkrade society."
What does the residents' initiative Op de Bossen (BIB) do?
BIB has existed for 10 years and is committed to the livability of the neighborhood. The volunteers do this by picking up signals in the neighborhood and responding to them. This can be by paying attention to safety, a clean living environment, neighborhood development, loneliness or by trying to promote social cohesion by organizing events for all age groups. Examples include a Halloween parade, clean-up events, music gatherings, scavenger hunts and brunch for the elderly. BIB always seeks to connect with local associations and neighborhood residents.
