Week Against Child Abuse
On average, in every school class there is one child who is a victim of abuse. That is one too many. Together we have a responsibility to increase the safety of these children. But how do you do that? That's what we're calling attention to during the Week Against Child Abuse from Nov. 14-20.
It only takes one person to stop child abuse. Preventing violence against children is a joint responsibility of every adult. After all, child abuse takes place right under our noses. It affects OUR children, in OUR neighborhoods, schools and clubs.
Child abuse is a complex and persistent problem. For example, about 3 percent of all children grow up in unsafe family situations. One person can mean a lot to a child in such a situation. Most reports of child abuse still come from the police. Neighbors, family, teachers or friends rarely make a report, even though it is probably they who had suspicions much earlier.
