Week of the Young Caregiver 2022
From June 1 to 7, 2022 is the Week of the Young Caregiver. During this week, the municipality of Kerkrade puts young people who care in the spotlight. A variety of activities will be organized for this purpose.
Nearly a quarter of all young people in the Netherlands care for someone
Many young people grow up with someone close to them who needs help. This could be a parent, a sibling, or even a grandparent or good neighbor. Does someone in your home have an illness, disability, depression or addiction? And do you often worry because of this, or do you help a lot at home by, for example, running errands or taking care of that person? Then you are a young family caregiver!
Sharing care with a friend is what every young family caregiver deserves
That is the theme of the Week of the Young Mantel Caregiver 2022 in Kerkrade. Together with Impuls Kerkrade, the Steunpunt voor Mantelzorgers and the Toon Hermans Huis, the municipality of Kerkrade is organizing various activities. Such as an outing to the barefoot path and a graffiti workshop. The full program will be announced later.
Young people who care for someone often fret about different things than their peers. Their friends often don't know what it means to be a young family caregiver. For example, they don't understand that a young family caregiver has to go home earlier than they do. And yet it is very important for young family caregivers to be able to turn to their friends. We therefore encourage young family caregivers to bring a friend along to the planned activities. This way their friends get a better idea of what informal care is all about.
Do you know or are you a young person who cares?
