The Flexiforum in Kerkrade provides space for various municipal and social organizations, as well as service providers and commercial businesses. Based on the central themes of learning, working and living, the environment of the Flexiforum offers the various tenants an optimal place to create a dynamic and lively community and thus to serve the residents of Kerkrade even better. Root Foods is a hip coffee & lunch bar, where ''Rooters'', that's what we call the young people with a distance from the labor market, work to serve guests a unique experience. Root Foods was conceived and set up in collaboration with our Rooters. You can taste our love for food and experience in the diversity of our tasty, daily fresh and healthy dishes. We bring people with a story together.
''Roots are growing and so are we''
Located in the Flexiforum in Kerkrade, Root Foods has recently become the central connection & meeting place within this location. "We are actually at the same time the company restaurant of Flexiforum and fill that in a way that suits the building and the tenants," said Bram Hochstenbach, project manager and restaurant manager Root Foods.
Root Foods was conceived by and for young people distanced from the labor market. The goal is to provide young people with a learning pathway to the labor market. Through training, coaching and activation, Root Foods aims to create this learning pathway and allow young people to grow in order to build sufficient resilience and prepare them for the labor market. The focus is on developing and utilizing the talents of Rooters.
Root Foods partners with Plinthos and De Wijnberg. These partners provide the support and guidance to Rooters who (currently) need it. Together we facilitate an integral, safe and stimulating work environment in which Rooters can develop. They develop competencies and skills that prepare them for paid employment. Root Foods is a commercial catering establishment. "But just a little bit different," says Bram. "We reinvest our profits in creating regular workplaces and certification for motivated Rooters. That way our young people grow and so do we."
Passion for sustainability and healthy eating is prominent in Root Foods' menu. Root Foods works primarily with artisanal products. The most delicious dishes are prepared with love and attention in our open kitchen. Delicious flavor combinations and fresh ingredients create a unique experience at Root Foods.
Plinthos: future for children youth
Plinthos is a full-service organization for children, youth, partners, stakeholders and entrepreneurs in the fields of Health, welfare, education and work. Together with various social partners, Plinthos implements a multiple, alternative approach aimed at strengthening the future possibilities of children and young people. They are stimulated to discover and develop their talents and capabilities from Plinthos.
Plinthos allows children and adolescents to discover their own abilities, qualities and capacities from their own familiar environment and initiative. They can further develop their intrinsic talents at Plinthos. What could you be proud of?" is an important question. At Plinthos 'together' is central. With our approach, with parties involved, no one stands alone. We all go for it together. All parties involved make the right effort at the right time from their talents. In this way, Plinthos creates unity and we give everyone the feeling of 'sjtols' again!

Flexiforum Cup
