Rock along with the NK Tile Rockers
Join the National Tile Hopping Championship: turn in your tiles and receive a free plant pack!
We invite Kerkrade residents to make their front yard or facade greener, cooler and more vibrant. Exchange your tiles for a free plant pack! You can sign up for the promotion from now on via the information page Kerkrade wips along. Choose one of six plant packages, including two Tuiny ZOO packages. These have been put together with GaiaZOO and IVN especially for garden animals such as the hedgehog, dwarf bat, bee, little fox (butterfly) and house sparrow.
The tile cab and planting days
To make it easy, the free Tile Taxi will come and pick up the tiles. At set times in September and October, this service collects up to 5 m³ of tiles per home. The tiles collected are reused in the city as much as possible.
Together we are making Kerkrade greener
Green gardens help reduce flooding, combat heat stress and make space for animals and insects. In addition, green streets are more pleasant to live in and invite to meet and play. The municipality is also working hard for more greenery in the neighborhoods, for example by working together with housing corporations on greening gardens and public spaces.
Alderman Alexander Geers (public space): "With our contribution to the NK Tegelwippen, together with residents, housing corporations, IVN and GaiaZOO, we are taking steps towards a livable and future-proof town. By replacing tiles for greenery, we are all doing our bit to create a Kerkrade in which people feel at home in a green, inviting environment."
Alderman René van Drunen (sustainability): "Sustainability is about choices beyond today. With this action we make visible how small interventions, such as replacing tiles with greenery, contribute to a climate-proof city with an eye for biodiversity."
