Kerkrade summer school 2022 was a great success
Friday, Aug. 26, was the last day of the Kerkrade 2022 summer school. The summer school began on July 25 and lasted for 5 weeks. During these 5 weeks, children between the ages of 7 and 12 were given time to discover new things.
We are much more beautiful than we think we are
That is the motto of the summer school Kerkrade. The school provides a social climate in which children immediately feel at home. Every day was started and closed with a common circle where attention was paid to each other and each other's stories. In the circle the children learn to know and really "see" each other, but especially themselves, through for example meditations, music, sharing short (life) stories. The closing circle ended each time with the same maxim. "Always remember that you matter. You matter and you are loved. You enrich this world like no one else can".
There was also a lot of focus on creativity. For example, the children drew, danced, photographed, read and much more!
Healthy in every way
]The motto "Healthy in every way" is also incorporated into almost all activities. For example, the children learn to cook with ingredients from their own vegetable garden. Every Thursday the children cooked and brought the meal to the community room Moat to eat together. In addition, there was plenty of exercise and sports.
Ukrainian children at summer school
For two weeks, some refugee Ukrainian children also participated in the summer school. During these weeks, they learned a new Dutch sentence every day. Jean-Philippe Rieu (initiator of the summer school): "It was wonderful to see how well the Ukrainian children and the Dutch children got along with each other, despite the language barrier. The contact came from the language of the heart. From the first moment the children danced, cooked and played together."
Kerkrade summer school in the fall
Many children expressed their regret that there is not summer school all year round. Therefore, it was decided that another week will be organized in the fall break. For more information visit www.zomerschool-kerkrade.nl
