Construction of traffic circle Koningsweg - Koniginnestraat - Niersprinkstraat

The municipality of Kerkrade is converting the Koningsweg-Niersprinkstraat-Koninginnestraat intersection into a roundabout. The entire intersection is being redesigned. We are doing this to improve traffic flow.

The drawing over the aerial photo shows the preliminary design of the new situation with traffic circle Koningsweg-Koninginnestraat-Niersprinkstraat. At the spot where there is now a junction, there will be a traffic circle.

Recently, three trees were moved from Rolduckerveld to the roundabout and to the City Park. Cables and pipes are currently being relocated to make room for the continued construction of the roundabout.

Sewer work has also been completed, and the street’s drainage system is currently being installed to ensure proper rainwater runoff. The roundabout is taking shape, and the central island will be installed shortly. The new sidewalks will also be installed soon.

If the work stays on schedule, traffic will be able to use the roundabout again on a limited basis by late May or early June. After that, work will continue on Koningsweg and a short section of Niersprinkstraat.
