Adjusting incorrect personal data

What is it?

The municipality maintains records of its residents in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). If your personal information is not recorded correctly, you can ask the municipality to correct it. This is called a correction request. You can check your information at MijnOverheid.

The BRP contains information about you in addition to your first names, last name, gender and citizen service number (BSN):

  • parents
  • nationality
  • marriage or registered partnership
  • death
  • registration in the BRP
  • residence (address)
  • children
  • residence permit (if you are from another country)
  • relationship of authority and receivership
  • travel document (passport and/or identity card)
  • suffrage

What to do.

  • You are asking the municipality to update your information.
  • Show that your information is incorrect. For example, in a letter from the municipality that states your data incorrectly. Or by making a screenshot of your details on MijnOverheid are.

Errors in Name and Date of Birth

Errors in your name or date of birth can only be corrected at our city office. Call 14 045 to make an appointment at our municipality’s Citizen Service Center.

Other errors

You can correct errors in other information, such as those mentioned above, online.

Update Personal Information at BRP

What do I need?

  • your valid ID
  • a document containing your incorrect data
  • An official document containing the correct information, such as a marriage certificate

How long does it take?

  • Within 4 weeks, the municipality adjusts the incorrect data.
  • The municipality will send you a letter when your information has been updated.
  • You will also receive a letter about this if the municipality cannot or should not update your information.

If you disagree with the decision on your request, you can file an objection with the municipality.
