Address Research

What is it?

Do you think someone is registered at your address who does not live there?
Then you can request a "notification of address investigation.

Request notification of address investigation

How does it work?

You can request an address search if you are the owner, tenant or co-occupant of the property. You can also revoke an address search.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the municipality may register someone at a new address or register them as "departed unknown whereabouts" (VOW). This person will then appear in the Non-Residents Registration (RNI). This change may affect benefits, allowances, health insurance and other schemes.

What to do.

You can request a notification address inquiry digitally.

Request notification of address investigation

If you prefer to request an address survey in person, please contact the Municipality of Kerkrade by phone at 14 045 to make an appointment.

At the time of the investigation, do you get more information about the new address of the departed resident? If so, please provide this information to us.

What do I need?

  • A valid proof of identity
  • Proof that you are the owner or tenant of the property, such as a purchase or rental contract.
  • As much information as possible about the person you wish to put in research, such as the name, date of birth, likely new address, phone number and/or email address.

How long does it take?

An address search takes about 3 months. Sometimes it can be shorter.

After the conclusion of the address survey, you will not be personally notified of the outcome of the survey.

Once the three months are up, you can go to MijnOverheid log in to check that the number of residents at your address is correct.

Additional information

Increasing the quality of address data (in the BRP) and combating address-related fraud is important. Therefore, the government has created a special approach for this purpose. Various organizations are working together to keep the quality of addresses permanently high. You can read all about it on the National Approach to Address Quality | ICTU.
