Attestation de vita (international proof of being alive)

What is it?

An attestation de vita is an international proof that you are alive. You apply for the attestation de vita in person at the municipality.

If you need proof of being alive in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba, you do not apply for an attestation de vita but for a proof of being alive.

How does it work?

You need an attestation de vita, for example, if your foreign life insurer or pension fund asks for it. An attestation de vita is available in Dutch and in French. The document is valid for 6 months.

If you wish to apply for the attestation de vita in person at the front desk, you must make a Make an appointment appointment with an employee of the civil registry of the municipality of Kerkrade. This cannot be done through the appointment scheduler.

What do I need?

  • A valid ID.
  • If you are requesting the attestation de vita for a pension fund, also bring the letter from the pension fund requesting it.
